Safe Parking
Park so as to deny access to the load area. Reverse the vehicle up against a wall or other vehicles if possible.
Securely lock all doors and compartments.
These pieces of advice are all logical and obvious. Because we do things automatically it is easy to forget to mention them when questioned by an examiner.
Use security devices. Use airline locks and or kingpin locks if these are available. These devices are used to limit the risk of a trailer being stolen; they prevent a tractor unit from coupling up.
Activate alarms if fitted – once again this is an obvious precaution, but don’t forget to mention it if questioned.
Walk around the vehicle to ensure that it is fully secure – when returning walk around the vehicle to ensure that it has not been tampered with. This is especially important if the next leg of your journey will take you across a border. A driver should always ensure that their vehicle and load are in good order before driving off.
