Fuel
In the same way that a journey cannot start until the load is safely secured, it cannot start until checks are made to ensure that the vehicle will not run out of fuel.
Is there enough fuel initially? The driver should check that the gauge shows fuel in the tank. If there is any reason to doubt the reliability of the gauge, the driver should make a physical check of the fuel level by dipping the tank.
Is there a fuel leak? The driver should be alert to the possibility of a fuel leak, checking the security of the tank and fuel lines. The driver should also ensure that the cap is secure and that the tank is not over filled which may result in spillage of fuel onto the road while cornering.
The driver should ensure that they always have the means to pay for fuel.
